A Summary Report on Full-time Equivalent State Employees for the Quarter Ending February 29, 2012

Overall Conclusion

As of the end of the second quarter of fiscal year 2012, the State employed 309,748.1 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees. That was a decrease of 6,945.1 FTEs (2.2 percent) since the end of the second quarter of fiscal year 2011, when the State employed 316,693.2 FTEs.

It is important to note that agencies and higher education institutions self-reported the FTE data presented in this report, and the State Auditor's Office did not independently verify that data.

Information on agencies and higher education institutions was as follows:

- Agency FTEs. As of the end of the second quarter of fiscal year 2012, agencies reported that they employed 147,100.4 FTEs. That was a decrease of 7,321.6 (4.7 percent) FTEs since the end of the second quarter of fiscal year 2011 (see Chapters 1 and 2 of this report for additional information).

- Higher Education Institution FTEs. As of the end of the second quarter of fiscal year 2012, higher education institutions reported that they employed 162,647.7 FTEs. That was an increase of 376.5 (0.2 percent) FTEs since the end of the second quarter of fiscal year 2011 (see Chapters 3 and 4 of this report for additional information).
